This site helps you find a book for your child. It’s important to match children up with books they want to read. It can make all the difference in the world if you can figure out his or her “reading personality.” So, just who is your child and what does your child look for in a book?

Have fun exploring!!

Book Review...

My Name Is Mina is a powerful and thoughtful book which really got me thinking. As Mina fills her journal with her stories, thoughts, poems and feelings, you get a trip into her magical world.

Mina describes the blank pages in her journal as an empty sky, with the words as birds flying across it. I think the book is like a sky filled with lots of colourful, exotic birds flying thought it, because it is so unique and imaginative. Every page left me wanting to read on, the entire book had me spellbound from start to finish. I think that what makes this book so good is because Mina uses words so creatively to tell us about her interesting life. She tells us about loss, love and life, and by the end of the book I had learnt a different way of looking at the world. Mina is a girl who has had some patches of darkness in her life, but she always finds a light and hope.
This story is written so well – it is funny, inspiring, sad, happy and made me feel so many different emotions throughout. By the end of the book I didn't want to say goodbye to Mina.

This book review is written by Chiara Wilkinson, (who lives in England) and who is 13 and one of the winners of the Guardian Young Critics' Prize 2011.  You may view this review and other book reviews on this website

What do you think of Chiara's review? Have you read this book yet?

David Almond has also written 'Skellig' which is a pre-quel to 'My Name is Mina' .  We have both of these books in our library.
